FESTIVAL STRUCTURE
THERE ARE THREE LEVELS TO THE FESTIVAL
DISTRICT FESTIVALS |
Secondary school drama groups must
first enter one of approximately 24 District Festivals
held in various areas of the province. Each District is organized by geographic
location. The number of shows that prceed to the Regional level is determined by a set formula. |
|
REGIONAL SHOWCASES |
District finalists are then invited to one of six Regional Festivals, each running three to six nights. | |
PROVINCIAL SHOWCASE |
Two Outstanding Productions from each Regional
Festival are invited to perform at the Ontario Showcase, held at various venues around the Province: University of Toronto's Hart House Theatre or North Bay, Hamilton, St. Catharines, Kingston
and so forth. |
At the DISTRICT and REGIONAL levels, Awards are given for Outstanding Production, Individual Performances, Stage Management and Technical Achievement. Awards Of Excellence and Awards Of Merit are presented to acknowledge outstanding student performers, writers, directors and technicians. At the ONTARIO SHOWCASE, the Festival is non - competitive. A number of Awards are given at the discretion of the Adjudicator. In addition, there are prizes for writing ($500) and technical skill ($500) as well as scholarships ($3000) and Bursaries ($500) awarded to help recipients pursue careers in performing arts.
